Tutka Bay Lodge naturalist guides carry out the company’s mission of providing guests with the opportunity to experience the powerful sense of time spent in Alaska’s wild places. General Duties and Responsibilities:
Possess a friendly, outgoing, professional demeanor with guests and other employees at all times
Follow all policies and procedures
Possess and maintain a strong work ethic 
Prior guiding, hospitality, and tourism experience  

Job Specific Responsibilities:
Facilitate the exploration of the surrounding area(s) within Kachemak Bay in a safe, immersive, educational, and enjoyable experience for our guests 
Greet guests upon arrival to the lodge in a professional manner 
Help guests manage their daily schedules  
Lead and/or assist guests with their on-site and off-site activities
Hiking
Tidal Exploration
Sea Kayaking
Bear Viewing
Deep Sea Fishing 
Wildlife Cruises
Fjord Exploration

Must be comfortable operating and living in bear country 
Must be comfortable spending extended periods of time on the ocean.  Sea kayaking and boat charters are frequent experiences for our guests.  Those prone to sea sickness should reconsider

Knowledge and Skills: 
Tutka Bay Lodge provides onsite training in all aspects of the naturalist guide’s job description.  Prior experience demonstrating these skills a bonus. 
Comfortable leading 1–2+ hour sea kayak trips with up to 6 guests 
Confidence in accessing guest comfort and ability level for all activities
Ability to hike 10 miles with 3,000 ft elevation gain 
Knowledge of and/or interest in learning how to forage land and tidal flora
Knowledge of and/or interest in learning about the marine life and fauna of Kachemak Bay
Respect for wildlife and trail boundaries
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Story-telling and interpretative skills a plus
Wilderness First Responder Certified 

Come equipped with personal gear and clothing to successfully operate and lead guests in south central, coastal Alaskan weather.
Other duties might include:
The right candidate must have strong mental fortitude for a seasonal, 4-month position 
Aid in the day-to-day responsibilities that come with the effective management of a wilderness lodge 
Assist the boat captains with the transportation of goods, recycling, rubbish, etc., to and from the lodge 
Assist the front of house staff with any main lodge needs 
Assist the house keepers with any guest cabin needs 
Assist the facilities and operations team with any property needs 
Assist the culinary team with any foraging needs 
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Ability to lift and carry 50lbs 
Standing for long periods of time 
Ability to work in inclement weather conditions 
Climbing ladders 
Work 10–12-hour days with one day off per week
