Center for Safe Alaskans (Safe Alaskans) promotes wellbeing, the prevention of injuries and improved safety of Alaskans. The Anchorage Youth Development Coalition (AYDC) is housed at the Safe Alaskans and supports youth-serving organizations through advocacy, resources, networking, and training, so all Anchorage youth thrive. We are a broad and inclusive coalition of over 60 youth-serving organizations, businesses, and individuals working to create shared community practices around professional youth work. The Program Manager (PM) will support planning, implementation, and evaluation of program activities for AYDC. Status:                         At-Will, Full Time (40 hours a week)

Salary:                          $60,000 - $65,000 DOE, non-exempt

Location:                      Anchorage, Alaska

A transition period to move to Alaska can be accommodated, and onboarding can be started remotely. The employee will need to live in or within commuting distance of Anchorage, Alaska, within 60 days of hire.

Remote Work:              The position is eligible for up to 75% remote and 25% in-person work. Remote work eligibility includes employee performance and work habits that are suited to remote work, including but not limited to self-motivation, self-discipline, the ability to work independently, manage distractions, and meet deadlines, and a history of meeting established performance expectations.

Position Summary: The Program Manager (PM) will oversee the planning, implementation, assessment and evaluation of Anchorage Youth Development Coalition’s (AYDC) program activities. The PM must be able to work effectively with AYDC members and partners, Safe Alaskans staff, funders, contractors, and other community stakeholders. 

 

With supervision from the Senior Program Manager (AYDC Director), this position is responsible for the direction and functioning of programs, including compliance with regulations and overall services provided to community partners and clients; provides guidance and direction for short and long-term goals. Responsible for the supervision of activities, ensuring the desired outcome is in line with the Center for Safe Alaskans' goals and AYDC’s objectives and strategic plan; will monitor activities, organization, and costs of the program and proceed to modify them as necessary with the approvals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Management

  • As part of a team, work closely with staff and community partners to set priorities and carry out program goals.
  • Lead participatory program planning, implementation and growth. This includes logistics, timelines, outreach, facilitation, assessment, budgeting, evaluation of program outcomes, and reporting to funders.
  • Manage relationships with existing funders and work with Executive Director and AYDC Director to support the development of new funding sources
  • Manage program contractors.
  • Programs the PM manages may vary. Current examples include AYDC Second Order Change and its Training of Trainers, Youth Program Quality Initiative, trauma-informed and restorative practices, and town halls for underage drinking prevention.

Anchorage Youth Development Coalition Engagement

  • Develop, nurture, and solidify relationships with coalition members and community thought leaders
  • Support design and facilitation of meaningful, inclusive coalition gatherings, 
  • Lead and support design and facilitation of training and workgroups as needed
  • Support coalition membership, including membership drive and tracking database
  • Manage coalition electronic communications and maintain supporting documents, including minutes and other coalition logistics
  • Participate in AYDC Leadership Team and committees in guiding the coalition’s work.

 

Training and Support

  • Maintain working knowledge of current best practices in the youth development field, especially shared protective factors, youth program quality, and Positive Youth Development. Define and implement quality and responsive training in youth development best practices
  • Provide coaching and technical assistance to community partners, including youth leaders, such as through the Youth Matter Grants.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years of experience working directly with youth.
  • At least one year of experience training/teaching adult audiences.

Skills and Abilities

  • Sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, and other individual differences in the workforce and community; recognizes the value of diverse perspectives and experiences and fosters an environment reflective of the community at large.
  • Understanding the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities.  
  • Interested in and skilled at working as part of a collaborative team both within the organization and with external partners.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and execute multiple complex projects with high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to take on a project with broad general goals and develop specific strategies and methods to achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to apply data and evidence-based literature to design, implement, and evaluate a public health program.
  • Skilled use of computer systems, Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and video conferencing platforms. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities and the ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments. 
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation knowledge, skills, and experience, including skills to lead experiential activities and facilitate youth and adult groups through open-ended
  • Experience with grant-funded projects/ grant administration preferred.
  • Self-directed and motivated. A strength-based positive attitude of service and enjoying people.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of evidence-based concepts for health promotion and injury prevention throughout the social-ecological model. 
  • Knowledge, training and experiences as a team builder. Works well with a variety of groups (intergenerational, cultural).
  • Knowledge of positive youth development, shared protective factors in prevention, youth program quality improvement, trauma-informed and restorative practices, and social and emotional learning.
  • Knowledge of Public Health Model, injury prevention, safety and wellness promotion frameworks and best practices or willingness to learn.

Physical Requirements: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that should be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to handle paperwork, operate computer equipment, and communicate effectively both in writing and orally with staff and the public. 

Additionally, this work can be physical and requires exertion, must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds. Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling; vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for use of measuring devices, and observing general surroundings and activities; employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions daily, cold, heat, and noise. Reasonable accommodations will enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties.
