Work Day: 10 hours per day/4 days per week
FTE: Full time, 1.0 FTE
Salary: M-8, $27.09 to $31.14 per hour, DOE

Job Summary
The Heat and Vent Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of heat and ventilation systems within Anchorage School District facilities. The location of the work station is subject to contract language concerning shift location/bids. Maintenance employees work a 4/10 schedule with weekends and holidays off. Job Requirements
The following are required:

  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. At a minimum, must possess an Alaska second class boiler operator’s license or demonstrate a commensurate level of experience and knowledge to perform second class boiler license work.
  3. The following are preferred:

  1. Minimum of four years of experience within the past six years in the field of heating and ventilation. Work experience must evidence ability to perform tasks assigned.

Job Functions

  1. Troubleshoots, analyzes, and repairs heating and ventilation systems.
  2. Corrects various heat problems from cold/hot rooms to boiler features.
  3. Repairs leaking circulating pumps.
  4. Performs minor plumbing repairs.
  5. Changes fan/pump motors including belts.
  6. Interprets and works from plans, prints, specifications, and established maintenance procedures.
  7. Writes reports as needed.
  8. Maintains knowledge of unit ventilators and fan components including exhaust systems, fluid transfer pumps, and building automation system controls for heating and ventilation systems.
  9. Maintains knowledge of standard heating, ventilation, and mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, fire tube, water tube, cast iron sectional, wet and dry back boilers, gas-fired and oil-fired furnaces.
  10. Routinely works at heights over 20 feet.
  11. Orders needed parts for assigned jobs.
  12. Proficiently uses appropriate computer applications for assigned areas of responsibility.
  13. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
  14. Works cooperatively with others and within established maintenance and safety procedures.
