Salary: M-8, $27.09 to $31.14 per hour, DOE

Job Summary
The Auditorium Technician operates and maintains theater equipment, provides technical assistance for community productions, and stage manages events for the Anchorage School District. Job Requirements
The following are required:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in theater or equivalent professional certification.
  2. Must possess a valid Alaska driver’s license.
  3. The following are preferred:

  1. Three years of responsible work with electronics, recording equipment, intercoms, and computerized theatrical theater equipment.
  2. Thorough working knowledge of all aspects of technical theater production including equipment and standard construction techniques.
  3. Knowledge of safety rules, building codes, and OSHA standards.

 
Essential Job Functions

  1. Operates and maintains theater equipment, including all sound and lighting equipment, motors, cables, limit switches, patch and microphone cords, curtains, etc.
  2. Provides technical assistance for school and community productions. Consults with lessees or advance agents for theatrical production regarding stage requirements and assists amateur producers and student productions with technical stage practices.
  3. Interprets blueprints and sketches for equipment layout for stage performances and coordinates load-ins and strikes.
  4. Operates lighting, sound, and rigging equipment during performances. Stage manages events, writes, programs, and calls cues, makes estimates and drawings for sets, and fabricates and installs materials as required for performances.
  5. Maintains the performance facility, directs the work involved in house renovations or alteration projects. Repairs seats, maintains stage deck surfaces, and provides aesthetic enhancements and repairs as needed.
  6. Performs safety checks on all theatre equipment and facilitates regular inspections to ensure the safety of the facility. Maintains compliance with building codes, fire safety standards, and state, federal, and OSHA standards.
  7. Troubleshoots equipment problems and makes safe repairs.
  8. Creates work orders for major carpentry, electrical, heat and vent, etc.
  9. Provides training to faculty and students in theater safety and stagecraft techniques.
  10. Routinely works at heights over 10 feet.
  11. Works nonstandard shifts that are subject to change; evening and Saturday/Sunday shift calls are standard.
  12. Works both independently as well as cooperatively with others within established maintenance and safety procedures.
  13. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
