Job Summary
The Assessment and Evaluation Coordinator plans, organizes and conducts District-wide assessments under direction of the Senior Director of Assessment & Evaluation, and works closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts and district staff to implement procedures for collecting and recording test data. The coordinator provides trainings and support to schools and district personnel on the interpretation of assessment data and its connection to instruction, and participates in district data interpretation, research, or evaluation projects.
This position requires a valid Alaska teaching or administrative certificate. Positions which are .50 to 1.0 FTE are in the Alaska Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS), positions which are .40 to .49 FTE are in the Alaska Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). Positions which are .39 FTE or less are not eligible for participation in either Alaska retirement system. 

Job Requirements
The following are required:

  1. A master’s degree in education or education measurement, research, or a related field.
  2. Three years of experience in education or a related field.
  3. A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate or the ability to acquire by start date.

The following are preferred:

  1. Five years experience in an education field as a teacher or administrator.
  2. Experience developing and/or delivering assessments, surveys or other measurement instruments in an educational environment.
  3. Knowledge of the state laws and regulations related to assessments.
  4. Understanding of the State Accountability System.
  5. Competency in research and evaluation methodologies.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of, and experience with, adult and professional learning concepts, (e.g., teacher training, college courses, data team/PLC lead, etc.).
  7. Knowledge of federal laws and Alaska regulations relative to stakeholder privacy under FERPA.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Collaborates with department/school lead coordinators to plan, organize and facilitate state mandated or district selected assessments.
  2. Consults and collaborates with departments to develop and deliver required trainings.
  3. Assures the security and validity of assessment procedures as required by law and regulation.
  4. Coordinates with subject matter experts to review and improve assessment practices and validity.
  5. Acts as a state-approved District Test Coordinator as outlined in regulation.
  6. Coordinates assessment work with testing vendors and associations.
  7. Collaborates with the Teaching and Learning Department, IT, Accountability and Assessment and Evaluation team members to provide actionable, accurate data for decision makers at all levels.
  8. Provides key decision makers at all levels with assistance and analysis as needed - particularly related to aligning and connecting assessment to curriculum and instructional practice within the district’s MTSS framework.
  9. Contributes, as a team member, to assigned research, evaluations or task force projects.
