Recover Alaska is seeking a creative, experienced intersectional thinker to implement the four-year, CDC-funded Alaska Alcohol Data to Action project. This role will connect partners statewide with epidemiological data through development of utilization-focused tools, trainings, and technical assistance designed to strengthen Alaska’s public health response to excessive alcohol use and related harms.

Wage Range: $75,000-$80,000 depending on experience
The Research Analyst is responsible for collaborative analysis and dissemination of statewide epidemiological data relevant to excessive alcohol use and related harms. The position will be responsible, directly or through management of contractors and work group(s), for:
- Project implementation and annual planning
- Project monitoring and evaluation
- Project budget planning and monitoring
- Contract and grant administration
- Report generation and communication
- Facilitation of the Regional & Community Data Use Guidance Team
The Research Analyst must be able to create and implement solutions within an entrepreneurial work environment. This position requires professional flexibility in managing and administering a variety of projects, superb organizational and creative problem-solving skills, and energy devoted to tackling the most commonly identified health problem in our state. Recover Alaska is a small shop, where everyone supports one another and picks up tasks as capacity allows; other duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop this new initiative for Recover Alaska to identify and address current gaps in alcohol data access and the viability of its use by communities.
- Analyze surveillance data relevant to excessive alcohol use in Alaska, utilizing standard analytical tools and software, including SAS.
- Work responsively and constructively with community-based partners located throughout Alaska to understand their needs, expectations, and opportunities for improved data access.
- Engage with CDC staff, technical assistance providers, and other grantees to improve program operations.
- Support project evaluation activities and continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts; identify problems and recommend intervention strategies.
- Advise team members and partners on the design and utilization of statistical data; adapt common statistical and research techniques to requests for tools and trainings.
- Manage multiple initiatives simultaneously. Project priority areas include but are not limited to: collaborative analysis of surveillance data, potentially including part-time co-location with the Division of Public Health, and participation in data workgroups; identification of communities’ data needs and priorities; and development and delivery of alcohol data dissemination tools, training, and technical assistance.
- Coordinate and otherwise support the work of field investigators or regional/community partners collecting data or staff members assisting in the projects.
- As necessary, modify existing data management procedures or develop new procedures; advise team members and partners in effective and efficient data management procedures.
- Perform complex internet and library research, including the identification of data resources and preparation of literature reviews.
- Prepare written reports and summaries of research/data analysis projects as necessary, including appropriate and accessible visualizations, graphs, charts and statistical tables.
- Conduct routine status reporting on planning and implementation.
- Support workgroups and attend Alliance/coalition/partner meetings.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as Recover Alaska Council members, Research Guidance Team members, partners, funders, contractors, and community members.
- Track project budget and manage grant reporting and continuation requirements.
- Respond to requests related to people seeking support with and access to alcohol data.
- Team assistance and duties as they arise.
