Position Summary:

UA Foundation is seeking a Sr. Accountant with a BA in Accounting and at least 5 years of accounting work experience, preferably for a non-profit organization. The ideal candidate should be skilled in all facets of the accounting cycle and work well with others. The position's primary duties include: preparation of journal entries, month-end closing procedures, account reconciliations, and investment earnings allocation. The job offers a flexible schedule with remote/hybrid work options.

 

Duties:

1-70Fund & General Ledger Accounting: -Prepares and posts journal entries for revenue, expense, transfers, asset, and liability transactions -Reviews and posts journal entries prepared by other accounting staff -Leads the month-end closing and account reconciliation processes -Prepares supporting schedules for the annual external financial audit and responds to audit inquiriesEssential 20Cash and Investment Accounting: -Oversees accounts payable and vendor payment processes -Uses specialized software to track ownership interests and manage investment earning allocations for a unitized pool of over 950 endowment funds -Prepares journal entries for donated stock sales -Reconciles bank, brokerage, and investment account statements to the general ledgerEssential 3-10Other Duties: Provides lead support to accounting staff in addressing complex and advanced accounting issues Assists in preparing IRS form 990, 990-T, multi-state unrelated business income tax returns, and charitable solicitation registration applications Assists in drafting the UA Foundation's annual financial statements and footnotes Responds to accounting inquiries from the University of Alaska Statewide Finance office Participates in accounting procedures documentation and work process improvement efforts; Performs other duties as assigned.Essential

The University of Alaska Foundation acts as a service center to all three Universities (Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Southeast) supporting fundraising activities of University Development offices. The mission of the UA Foundation is to seek, secure and steward philanthropic support to build excellence at the University of Alaska. A legally separate organization from the University of Alaska, the Foundation is governed by a volunteer board and is managed by a President who also serves as the University's Chief Development Officer. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

• Advanced knowledge of accounting theory and generally accepted accounting principals.

• Strong problem solving skills.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus from staff in other departments.

• Ability to synthesize information into comprehensive reports.

• Ability to formulate unique and creative solutions for problems.

 

Typical Experience:

5 years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.

 

Required Education or Training:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA or other professional accounting certification is preferred.

 

Salary Information:

 

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://alaska.edu/jobs/benefits.php.
