The Theatre and Dance Department at the University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking applicants for a Scene Shop Supervisor. Production is at the very center of our award-winning Theatre & Dance program. Each season we produce both plays and dance concerts in our Mainstage Theatre and Jerry Harper Studio Theatre.




10Basic maintenance of technical equipment and tools for production. Manage scene shop and prop shop storage.Essential 10Order and/or pick up of materials (construction materials and safety supplies) required for the production shops.Essential 20Working supervision and supplemental training of student workers and oversight of volunteer workers.Essential 30Assisting with lighting, sound, and management of the three performance venues in the fine arts buildings (Recital Hall, Mainstage Theatre, and Studio Theatre). Includes: Assisting with community rentals, ensuring safety procedures are followed, oversee venue maintenance, and training of student technicians. Additional work in the areas of lighting, sound, house management as the productions require.Essential 30General oversight of the Theatre Scene Shop. Includes ensuring safety procedures are followed in the shop/production areas. Oversee construction, maintenance, and strike of sets and props for productions. Primary contact for shop safety training and maintenance of safety supplies. Interpret and implement set plans for productions including building of physical set elements. Additional work in the areas of lighting, sound, house management as the productions require.Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:


• A proficient skill with carpentry and large stationary tools is required.

• Experience with or ability to maintain basic shop tools and equipment.

• Knowledge of or familiarity with electronics, rigging, and technical theatre.

• Experience with or knowledge of shop safety.

• Experience with or ability to interpret and understand technical shop drawings.

• Demonstrated supervisory and organizational skills. Ability to meet deadlines.


Typical Experience: Three years scenic construction or stagecraft experience. Must have worked as Master Carpenter, construction coordinator, or Master Electrician, and have experience in constructing scenery for theatre or film and Theatrical rigging systems. Required Education or Training:

Valid driver license.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, term-funded, 9-month (mid-August to mid-May), non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and New hires will be placed on the, Grade 76, based on education and experience.
