Assistant Controller

Anchorage, AK · Accounting/Finance

Salary $100K-120K/Year

SUMMARY

In cooperation with the controller, primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, compiling and presenting Consolidated Financial Statements for multiple companies, budgets, and projections, planning, implementing, and improving processes, including developing internal controls for our rapidly growing company.   This position will assist in the coordination and completion of the annual financial statement audit.  The controller and assistant controller will coordinate supervision and oversight of the Finance departments, as mutually agreeable.     

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in managing staff, including hiring, training, and monitoring workload, to ensure the work and responsibilities of the accounting department are appropriately covered.  
  • Management of job descriptions, postings, and interview questions for the finance team
  • Assist in oversight of all aspects of accounting, including manufacturing and inventory from commercial fishing, sales, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and federal and state regulatory and tax-related filings. 
  • Oversight of the payroll system, calendar, and procedures
  • Assist in creating and improving processes and internal controls for a rapidly growing company. 
  • Assist in the Preparation of financial statements as well as present for actuals to management as requested.  
  • Review and manage the GL, including the review and verification of substantial and/or irregular entries, either in the modules or through the general ledger.
  • Stay up to date on accounting pronouncements and assist with the implementation of memorandums and procedures for the finance department to maintain compliance with GAAP.
  • Training and development of the finance department including the development of the non-professional and professional staff into stronger accountants with better understandings of the effects of their departments.
  • Provide coverage for the Controller when needed.
  • Coordinate and assist in the oversight of the financial statement audit.
  • Assist the finance department in the resolution of identified problems and errors. 
  • Other duties as assigned.   

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTSMinimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.  At a minimum is required to be eligible and in process of obtaining a CPA license, license individual is preferred. Minimum of five years experience in accounting with supervisory experience and some public accounting experience preferred.  A solid understanding of ASC and GAAP is necessary.  Significant working experience and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required, and experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains preferred.  Experience working with not-for-profits and CDQ groups is a plus.  Must possess an ability to learn and teach others and work well in a team environment.  Must possess the ability to represent the company in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.  High regard for accuracy and attention to detail, along with strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines is required.
