Position Summary
The Ground Medic operates under the supervision of the Ground Operations Manager and provides high quality out-of-hospital advanced life support including assessment, triage, and treatment utilizing standards and guidelines established by the Medevac Alaska Medical Director(s) within scope of practice; assesses the nature and extent of illness and injury to establish and prioritize care needed for safe transport of a variety of patients to the appropriate facility working in collaboration with their partner; is qualified to provide care for patients across the life-span in assigned clinical area; responsible for carrying out the mission and goals of Medevac Alaska assuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum.
Requirements
Ability to work in confined and mobile spaces
Ability to communicate with patients, families, facility staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors and other stakeholders.
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Ability to respond to phone calls, emails and radio communication in a timely manner.
Ability to repeatedly twist, squat, stoop, bend, grasp and use fine motor skills to push and pull.
Ability to routinely lift 100 pounds or more, including patients, equipment and belongings.
Ability to follow all safety protocols and best practices applicable to the medical transport environment to include protective equipment, hearing protection, eye protection and safety restraints.
Must maintain an insurable driving record for the duration of employment. For insurance purposes, all drivers must be at least 25 years of age.
Ability to obtain SIDA Badge Clearance at Ted Stevens International Airport
Ability to complete training and education requirements to meet the Alaska Expanded Scope guidelines\
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
No criminal charges that would preclude EMT
Ability to obtain Alaska EMT-3/ MICP
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
Alaska State Driver’s License with clean driving history for 5 years.
NIMS 700
One year of recent field experience as an EMT-1, EMT-2 or EMT-3 or MICP
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Medical Life Support certification (or equivalent)
Advanced Trauma Life Support certification (or equivalent)
CEVO or EVOC
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Three or more years of recent field experience as an EMT-MICP
Working Conditions
Incumbents must understand that the position entails assignments to a variety of locations, some remote, within the State of Alaska. Flexibility with company provided housing and transportation are essential in order to fulfill the mission of Medevac Alaska and to serve our clients in the last frontier.
