Rural Student Coordinator
Overview:
The Literacy Council of Alaska is looking for a Rural Student Coordinator to be the primary contact for all rural students in the Interior and North Slope regions, provide remote and in-person GED tutoring, and coordinate with rural community partners. Our ideal candidate is an experienced teacher or tutor comfortable with multiple subjects who is innovative, culturally responsive, and able to travel. While traveling, the Rural Student Coordinator may work outside normal business hours. This position will have the opportunity to make process improvements, create strong connections between communities, and contribute to the mission of literacy for all.

Job Duties:
Outreach (35%)
Make and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with community partners in rural villages, including schools, Native Corporations, Village Councils, and other community organizations
Plan and execute travel to villages in the Interior and North Slope regions, both on and off the road system
Distribute information about the Adult Education programs to community partners
Advocate for rural student needs and help find funding sources with Director
Instruction (45%)
Provide 1/1 tutoring for students over the phone and video calls
Find and distribute appropriate online and physical study materials
Reporting (20%)
Track attendance for students
Track and manage the Rural Student budget in collaboration with the GED Program Director and other LCA staff
Prepare weekly reports for GED Program Director
Job Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum of two years experience working in an educational setting
Organized and able to work independently
Able to travel frequently to remote locations (flying and driving)
Has an understanding of Alaska Native cultures and the barriers Alaska Native people experience in the educational sphere
Must be able to pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications:
Has worked or volunteered with LCA for 6+ months
Degree in education
Experience working in rural Alaska
2 or more education related certifications
Supervised by the Director of GED Programs
Starting Salary: $20 per/hr @ 30-40 hrs/wk, with potential for remote work
