Outreach and Coordination Intern
Harvest: Quyurciq
Harvest: Quyurciq is a documentary short film about the sustainable harvest of sea otters by Alaska Natives. The film’s profile was elevated via media coverage in prominent outlets like the New York Times, and has been very well received at film festivals, universities, and museums throughout the world.
The nonprofit Native Peoples Action is now providing a grant to pair the film with a one-day curriculum about Native subsistence practices, which will be distributed for free to middle and high school teachers throughout the United States. The film will simultaneously be distributed to universities, museums and environmental/outdoor science centers as well. The project requires two Native American, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian students/recent graduates for part-time, paid internships during the 2018-2019 school year. The positions would consist of the following core responsibilities:
Outreach to middle and high school social studies and environmental science teachers; Native Studies and environmental science professors at the college/university level; museums; and outdoor/environmental science centers throughout the United States
Coordination with said parties to ensure successful screenings of the film and/or implementation of its accompanying curriculum
Management of the project’s social media channels
Pay will be competitive and negotiable. The interns can work remotely and we would like them to commit to about 10 hours per week. Those interested in the project are encouraged to apply by sending their resume and a brief cover letter to harvestalaska@gmail.com
