Position Summary:

The Interior Alaska Campus is recruiting for a Tribal Governance Coordinator, please apply!

Duties:

Advising and Recruiting (50%): Advise students within the Tribal Governance program. Meet with individual students to establish academic plans. Support retention strategies through a comprehensive evaluation of academic history, placement data, and ongoing assessment of student interests, motivation, and financial needs. Utilize knowledge of student development theory in the areas of learning styles, first year and/or first generation college student, retention transitions from small/rural schools to urban communities/colleges, cross-cultural communications, Alaska Native culture, second language learners, and academic placement and includes administering course placement and career guidance. Identify student cohorts, recruitment and outreach targets; provide general communication to students and partners; conduct on-site recruitment as needed and funding allows. Approve petitions and memos related to Tribal Governance programs as well as coordinate with UA academic departments to approve petitions for transfer evaluations of coursework from exchange institutions. Assist students and parent(s) with completion of the FAFSA application. Assist students with accessing financial aid and other resources. Maintain current scholarship and internship opportunities and applications on file for current students. Responsible for setting goals with students and assessing outcomes. Assist students in areas of career exploration, including but not limited to resume’ and cover letter writing, and job searches. Participate in, and promote student engagement in leadership opportunities. Advise undergraduate students at UAF as need arises.

Program Coordination (50%): Work in a fast-paced environment with confidence; make sound program management decisions; set priorities in concert with IAC/Tribal Governance strategic and marketing plan. Collaborate and keep in close communications with the Tribal Governance team. Duties will include, but not limited to the following: Coordinate internal and external communications. This is included but not limited to Tribal Governance staff and faculty program meetings, communication with partners and other university campuses and departments. Formulate responses to inquiries from internal/external entities as appropriate and serve as the main point of contact for the program. Prepare and maintain all Tribal Governance files Address all logistics associated with course delivery including setting and confirming schedules, selection of location/classrooms, and establishing communications with instructors. Facilitation of course scheduling forms. Communicate with instructors and course participants. Share as appropriate class rosters, classroom location, class materials and catering requests. Work with instructors to develop and produce all course materials and workbooks. Provide faculty with information critical to the planning and development of program delivery. Contract catering and other items as necessary and essential for course delivery. Coordinate the procurement of Tribal Governance supplies and class delivery materials, process all related forms and documentation. Marketing/advertising - Coordinate and deploy marketing efforts on behalf of Tribal Governance. Duties will include, but are not limited to the following: Intentionally raise awareness of open enrollment and Tribal Governance course offerings. Research, develop, enhance and maintain contact database and mailing list. In compliance with Federal regulations concerning e-mail distribution, utilize databases to announce programs and to respond to requests for information or assistance. Proofread, verify and review all materials to ensure highest levels of professionalism.

As the Tribal Governance Coordinator, this position provides program coordination for the Tribal Governance department, including course and event planning, development, and implementation. Key responsibilities include communication and logistics. This position is also responsible for advising and recruiting students into the program, ensuring increased student success.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent organizational skills, effective management skills, ability to work independently, able to work in remote/rural situation, able to develop & maintain partnerships. An understanding and knowledge of rural and Alaska Native issues including the culture and traditions of Native peoples. Knowledge of distance delivery education.

Typical Experience:

Minimum of three years of experience in the following; rural education and/or management. Effective experience working with and providing outreach to Tribal Councils and/or Alaska Native organizations.

Required Education or Training:

Two years college coursework and experience working in a college/university setting or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Effective experience working with and providing outreach to Tribal Councils, Alaska Natives, and external organizations. Knowledge of student support services. Effective experience in collaborating with communities.

Term Position:

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
