Job Title: Tribal Police Officer     

Department: Justice         

Reports to: Justice Director                     

 

Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to foster a safe community by patrolling Tribal Citizens’ properties, and residential areas. Enforces Tribal, federal and state law where applicable on Tribal lands to ensure users are properly permitted and conducting in a safe manner.  Conducts security checks on CVTC buildings, assets, recreational areas under Tribal authority.  Responds to calls for service, assists elders, detects, and investigates crime, and responds to emergencies. Completes reports and administrative tasks and participates in CVTC meetings and trainings. This is a grant-funded, full-time, salary, benefited position.

 

Qualifications, Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED.  This is a police officer entry-level position. As an entry level job there is no experience required. Someone with police experience may have an advantage during the oral board interview as they can answer situational questions based on real life experiences.

 

Certificates and Licenses Required: The successful applicant must be insurable on CVTC's vehicle insurance policy by having a valid Alaska driver's license and acceptable driving record

 

Screening Requirements: New hires for this position are subject to pre-hire alcohol/drug testing. This position is subject to random alcohol/drug testing. A physical fitness and hearing check is required for this position.

 

Psychological Evaluation: A psychological evaluation will be conducted is required. Must be completed before hired.

 

Background & Polygraph Test: A federal and state background check is required for this position. Background checks will be conducted every two years as a condition of employment. Must pass a background check before being hired. Must pass the polygraph test before hired.

 

AN/AI Preference: As allowed in P.L. 93-638, preference for employment will be given to Alaska Natives and American Indians.
