AmeriCorps Program Specialist
The Alaska Afterschool Network AmeriCorps Program Specialist is responsible for managing and expanding the Alaska Afterschool AmeriCorps Program. The Alaska Afterschool AmeriCorps Program is a new initiative placing AmeriCorps members at afterschool programs throughout Alaska to foster academic and social-emotional growth of students. The position will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Alaska Afterschool AmeriCorps program including Member recruitment, hiring and supervision, program promotion, and reporting and evaluation.
Supervision
The AAN AmeriCorps Program Specialist will report directly to the Executive Director of the Alaska Afterschool Network.

Wage Range $26.00 - $34.00 DOE
Education & Experience: (after skills)
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in education, social work, youth development, human services, or related field.
- Prefer 2 years of experience in the area of education, afterschool programming, and/or youth programing or any combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Prefer prior experience with AmeriCorps or similar national service program.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of project and data management.
- Understanding of, and commitment to positive youth development, and improving policies, strategies and services for afterschool programs.
- Experience in implementing best practices and quality standards in the afterschool field.
- Knowledge of outcome measurement, child/youth development, training, and curriculum development a plus.
- Effective listening and strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong people skills and an ability to connect well to diverse groups and individuals.
- Public speaking and training facilitation skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional learning and growth.
- Possess a sense of humor, strong work ethic, and dedication to system change to benefit children and youth.
Job Duties
- Oversee all aspects of AmeriCorps Program including recruitment, interviewing, enrollment, orientation, training, evaluation and exiting of AmeriCorps Members.
- Foster relationships with diverse program providers to ensure Member success at afterschool sites. This includes recruiting and supporting placement site locations.
- Encourage an ethic of service and AmeriCorps esprit de corps by motivating and inspiring Members throughout their service year.
- Oversee all aspects of Member terms of service including required paperwork, payroll and leave processes, and Member compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
- Coordinate Member professional learning opportunities, such as orientation and in-service trainings, in order for Members to gain knowledge and skills needed to successfully work with diverse youth.
- Solicit input from service providers, community leaders, current and former AmeriCorps Members, program staff, and funding sources to guide program planning and needs assessments.
- Publicize and promote Member and program activities and accomplishments.
- Support Members in implementing curricula and engage in continuous program quality improvement through supervision, coaching, and performance evaluation. through
- Adhere to AmeriCorps Program compliance through implementation of records and data management systems.
- Collect and analyze Member outcome measures and submit regular progress reports, grant reports, and program evaluations.
- Collaborate with supervisor to assure all grant reporting and budget compliance requirements are completed.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, regular supervisory meetings, and all required training.
- Build collaborative relationships to strengthen afterschool programming and advance the mission of the Alaska Afterschool Network.
- Be willing to travel to urban and rural AmeriCorps Member sites and state/national meetings and conferences.
- Perform other duties as need and assigned.
