Position

We are seeking a public policy and government relations expert who can lead the development, planning and delivery of public policy and stakeholder engagement initiatives to support the Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim Tribal Consortium (AYK TC). You will be responsible for shaping and protecting the AYK TC reputation as one of the state’s top-performing, most socially responsible and values-led campaigns.

 

In this role, you will set the strategic direction for public policy advocacy across several highly visible and government critical areas. You will develop and cultivate deep relationships with external stakeholders (policymakers, nonprofit partners, trade associations) to achieve public policy and government relations objectives. You will have the proven ability to effectively work and develop trusted relationships with partners at all levels. You will work directly with senior executives, including multiple CEOs, to advise on AYK TC advocacy priorities. You will be asked to bring new ideas to the table, lead projects and participate in cross-functional teams.

 

About the Job

  • Design and execute advocacy strategies for government relations strategic plan for legislative and regulatory issues at the international, federal, state, and local levels
  • Work internally with Alaskan leaders to shape AYK TC's public policy priorities and advocacy plans to advance campaign objectives
  • Develop and strengthen strategic relationships with U.S. government officials, government agencies, relevant non-profit organizations, and business and interest groups, serving as a strong campaign advocate
  • Advance AYK TC 's public policy priorities, focusing on the areas of trade, tax, sustainability, civic engagement, and social policies (voting, gun violence prevention)
  • Develop the strategies and support the AYK TC to engage government officials and support public policy initiatives
  • Deliver a return to AYK TC growth and reputation through its government relations outreach


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in fields of international relations, political science, or international economics.
  • 8+ years’ experience in the public or private sector working on government affairs and public policy initiatives.
  • Demonstrated leader level knowledge, skills, and expertise in the areas of government affairs, public policy, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Create, influence, and translate public policy strategies based on insights, research, and data and planning.
  • Clear understanding of external stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Develop accurate conclusions based on context, facts, experience, and stakeholder needs.
