Description:

Supervised by the Executive Director, the Programs Manager provides leadership and oversees implementation of all programs at Yuut Elitnaurviat. Programs include Adult Education, Apprenticeship, Aviation Maintenance, Construction Trades, Drivers Education, Healthcare, Public Safety, and other collaborative training opportunities with industry partners. This person is primarily responsible for direct supervision of program and administrative staff to execute the mission of Yuut Elitnaurviat to “promote high wage jobs for local workers through vocational training and educational opportunities”. This position is responsible for implementing workforce development objectives agreed to in Federal & State grants, in addition to reporting progress and outcomes.

 

This individual must develop and maintain relationships with contractors and local, state, and federal agencies. We are seeking an energetic candidate with a background in program management, education and/or construction trades fields (not essential) to create and implement strategies for successful program delivery. Independent judgment and action is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload. This person must exercise critical thinking and be able to recommend changes in program practices or procedures. The mission of Yuut Elitnaurviat is to promote high wage jobs for local people through vocational training and educational opportunities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5 years of program management and/or supervisory experience
  • Teaching and/or experience in education field a plus
  • Strong commitment to customer service
  • Ability to lead projects and think critically about efficiency, purpose, and mission to accomplish goals and objectives
  • Organized and able to meet multiple deadlines
  • Understanding of local culture and environment, including issues affecting Alaska Natives

 

Other duties:

  • Communicate successes, challenges, and needs to funding agencies
  • Work closely with Executive Director and Director of Operations
  • Communicate with program staff through e-mail, telephone, and regular meetings
  • Ultimately responsible for student issues including discipline and policy violations
  • Communicate expectations, goals, and objectives to staff
  • Cultivate relationships with employers, partner agencies, and social service organizations
  • Recruit, hire, and oversee training and orientation of direct reports
  • Oversee student achievement and progress through training programs leading to employment
  • Ensure facility space and resources are available for both internal and external activities
  • Ensure teaching environment is conducive to student learning and success
  • Communicate with contractors to ensure organizational goals, grant objectives, and needs are met
  • Oversee the administrative processes of student application, enrollment, and documentation
  • Oversee logistics and supervise staff responsible for student travel, lodging, and meals
