Position Summary:

The Language and Culture Director is responsible for continued Ahtna language and cultural learning, mentoring, leading, motivating, and supervising staff members (Ahtna Language Teacher Advisor, Ahtna Language Teachers, Museum Specialist, etc.) and contractors of the Language and Culture Department. The Language and Culture Director is responsible for overseeing and guiding the daily operations, programs, projects, staffing, budgets, reporting, and funding for the department. The Language and Culture Director seeks funding as identified in Tribe’s Strategic Plan by submitting grant applications to various foundations, corporations, Tribes, federal, state, and borough agencies. Additionally, the Language and Culture Director is responsible for fundraising and earning income in order to continue, improve and expand existing programs/projects for the department. The Language and Culture Director is responsible for coordinating the monthly Cultural Committee meetings and working collaboratively with other departments on the Annual Culture Camp. The Language and Culture Director works collaboratively on activities of the Ya Ne Dah Ah School, and with the Tribal Historic Preservation Office. This is a full-time 40 hours per week position with benefits.

 

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

5 to 10 years of experience preferred. The applicant must have relevant work experience.  Must have experience working for a Tribal entity, preferably a Tribal Government. Bachelor’s degree preferred but may be substituted for four additional years of relative experience.

 

Alcohol and Drug Testing:

New hires for this position are subject to pre-hire alcohol/drug testing. This position is subject to random alcohol/drug testing.

 

Background Check:

This position will also be subject to a State & Federal background check.
