JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Department.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Four-year degree in business related field (accounting preferred) or year for year experience in related field required.
  2. Minimum two years supervisory experience in accounting related field required.
  3. Must have a working knowledge of all major MS Office programs and experience with accounting software.  Experience with Great Plains Dynamics software preferred. 
  4. Working knowledge of Wells Fargo CEO or similar banking website preferred.
  5. Extensive experience month-end close procedures and financial statement preparation.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  7. Self motivated and flexible in order to work towards meeting deadlines.
     

REPORTS TO:  Controller
 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs the monthly close procedures for SNC and some of its subsidiaries.  These duties include, but are not limited to:
  1. reconciling subsidiary ledgers to the GL
  2. reconciling investment accounts
  3. preparing cost pool allocation entries
  4. reconciling life insurance and deferred comp accounts
  5. posting debt service activity
  1. Prepares and posts book transfers to pay off intercompany accounts monthly.
  2. Prepares financial statements for various subsidiaries.
  3. Assists with the corporate consolidation and preparation of the consolidated financial statements.
  4. Works with controller and financial institution to manage and maintain corporate credit card program.  Also, helps maintain the security settings for employees with access to bank websites.
  5. Supervises the Finance staff in the Nome office and payroll function in Anchorage. 
  6. Functions as a backup to all finance staff positions.
  7. Works with the accounts payable technician on year end reporting for 1099’s.
  8. Works with the payroll technician on yearly reporting requirements.
  9. Assist controller with annual audit preparation and year-end closing of books.
  10. Assist controller with various projects and other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsbility

This position is responsible for managing the accounting department in Nome, AK

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Majority of work performed in a fast-paced professional office setting but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Majority of duties in general office environment with occasional light lifting. Ability to continuously stand or walk. Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

TRAVEL:

Some travel within Alaska may be expected for this position.
