Job Overview

Responsible for Job Corps Center security, transportation and safety program, to include fire prevention, property protection, and orderly operation in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives. Directly supervises the safety and security transportation department and ensures quality delivery of services.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties Job Functions:

  • Plans, coordinates, and directs the administrative activities of the safety, security and transportation department.
  • Oversees management of Job Corps Center security transportation, including staff scheduling.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures affecting the transportation/security department and Center Safety Programs. Promotes student attainment of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skill acquisition and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.
  • Reviews existing policies and measures and update according to policy and legislation.
  • Manages the on-center work-based learning program. Provides student coverage to meet the needs of the center.
  • Cultivates and maintains a climate on Center, which is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
  • Manages the center’s GSA vehicle fleet.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Security and Transportation:

  • Oversees and assists in transporting ill and injured students requiring medical attention.
  • Oversees and assists with the transport of students to work-based learning sites, college, airport and other activities. Must be able to work all shifts day, prime and overnight.
  • Oversees and ensuresthe security of buildings, vehicles, and property by working with transportation/security department staff to ensure regularly checks of doors, windows, lighting, appliances, equipment, locks, and emergency equipment.
  • Provides or schedules alarm station coverage; ensures that proper student check-in and check-out procedures are followed.
  • Assists Center staff and law enforcement officers in controlling disturbances; investigate and prepare reports on such; coordinate tort claims.
  • Conducts searches and seizures when so authorized; confiscates contraband, weapons, etc., and deliver such to the Center Director for proper disposal.
  • Ensures that students’ civil rights are upheld during interview sessions.
  • Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property.

Safety:

  • Serves as Center’s primary Safety Officer.
  • Coordinates, conducts, and documents all safety inspections on Center in accordance with policy.
  • Develops and maintains the Center’s Safety and Occupational Health plan (OSH), risk assessment plan, emergency plans, and loss accidents, safety equipment failures, and serve as the liaison between Center and insurance underwriters.
  • Serves as Safety Officer and Advisor on the Career Technical Skills Training committee.
  • Advises and instructs on various safety-related topics to include but not limited to first aid, CPR, driving, and commercial driving instruction/examinations, when certified and/or qualified to do so.
  • Tests fire and safety systems and intrusion alarms; report malfunctions.
  • Reports fires and assists, as appropriate, in suppressing fires.
  • Serves as liaison with federal, state, and local law enforcement, and the fire department.
  • Maintains incident reports, accident documentation, logs, and other records as prescribed by Center guidelines.
  • Adheres to safety practices.
  • Reviews, reports and processes accident/injury reports for staff and student job related injuries.
  • Identifies unsafe practices and develops corrective measures to minimize risk and lost time accidents in accordance with corporate, government and Job Corps regulations.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Associate degree in related field.
  • Two (2) years of related experience.
  • One (1) year supervisory experience.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Successfully pass a background check and drug test.
