Job Summary:

The Physician role coordinates clinical care, in collaboration with the Clinical Medical Director and the Primary Care Manager for the Dena'ina Wellness Center (DWC) Medical Program to ensure that quality care is provided. The Physician provides guidance of other providers and also performs direct patient care. Participates in population-based care management, public health efforts, and provides guidance in the appropriate utilization of healthcare resources. Promotes, consults, and may champion process improvement initiatives, which may include, but not limited to, the Institutes for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), Chronic disease models, integration of care, the Indian Health Service (IHS) - Improvement in Patient Care (IPC), and patient centered medical home models. Provide consultation to the DWC Health Leadership team

Essential Functions:

  • Assumes a clinical leadership role for a primary care team
  • Works with the primary healthcare, behavioral health, dental, family and social services teams for a patient centered, integrated model of care
  • Work with the primary healthcare team to provide patients with primary medical care services adhering to the Kenaitze Indian tribe and medical standards of care
  • Analyze reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and optimize patient treatment options
  • Participates in administrative decision making and recommends policies and procedures
  • Partners with Clinical Medical Director to optimize flow, maximize productivity, and ensure patient access while maintaining quality care
  • Consults with Clinical Medical Director and Primary Care Manger in creating medical protocol standardization and ensure that providers practice to the accepted standards of care
  • In collaboration with health leadership team, recommends new and innovative modalities for treatment of various health conditions
  • Analyzes and consults with Clinical Medical Director, Primary Care Manager, and Infection Control/Employee Health Specialist on epidemiology data to assess health trends, identify needs and opportunities to improve healthcare
  • Effectively utilizes electronic health record (EHR) to document clinical activity and management population health appropriate interventions
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications and treatment regiments to treat identified and documented conditions.

Qualifications

Education

  • Doctor of Medicine Degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree

Experience

  • Three (3) years of Family Practice experience
  • Experience in evaluation diagnosis and treatment in primary care with special emphasis in cross cultural health care setting
  • Experience working in a multiple medical provider setting

License/Certification

  • Current United States Medical Licensure as a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy
  • Current DEA certificate, BLS certification required
  • BC/BE in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver's License and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy.

  • Understand quality improvement methods such as developing a systematic measurement for evaluating the delivery of services. This includes measure, analyze, improve and control. Complete PDSA cycles
  • Detail oriented, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and technical skills
  • Dynamic personality with strong leadership and team building approach
  • Public health training and/or experience
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with other health professionals
  • Knowledge of healthcare accreditation standards
