Job Summary

The Grants & Compliance Manager position provides leadership and technical oversight in developing and managing all Federal, State and private Kenaitze Indian Tribe (KIT) grant awards. This position oversees the grant development, grants compliance, and financial management of the Finance department in all areas from coordinating the initial grants application composition through the final report submission.

Essential Functions

  • Hire, mentor, and develop Senior Grant Writer and Grants Coordinator
  • Assist in payroll account GL review
  • Assist the Controller in the monthly close process
  • Reconcile grants to account balance sheets and income statements
  • Review budget revisions for all grants
  • Provide quarterly grant reports to Tribal Council
  • Performs monthly reviews of grant programs and audits all cost transfers, budget revisions, carryovers, closeouts, no-cost extensions, and draw downs
  • Provides routine feedback to program managers on grant proposals, coordinating accurate salaries for new positions, advising on KIT purchasing and travel procedures, indirect rate considerations, allowable match/in-kind contributions and grant regulations
  • Assists tribal programs with developing mid to long range funding strategy and sustainability planning
  • Coordinates all external grant related audits - 2 CFR 200 annual audits and grantor audits - between auditors, program managers, and finance staff
  • Prepares grant work paper, schedules for external auditors
  • Maintains all KIT policies, KIT procedures and strict confidentiality of all KIT information.

Working Conditions

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting or related field, or a combination of experience and education may be substituted for a Bachelor's degree.

Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience in grants
  • Experience in program development and planning
  • Experience in grant compliance
  • Management experience in a tribal or non-profit entity is preferred

License/Certification

  • Alaska Driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy

Special Skills

  • Proven organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, research, and planning skills
  • Proficiency in PC, business applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PDF, Microsoft Office Suite)

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Great Plains
  • Knowledge and experience in cultural diversities
