Job Title: 477 Job Coach     

Department: Employment & Training Services Department (ETSD)     

Reports To: Job Coach Supervisor     

Supervises: None     

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt     

Pay Grade: N6     

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time   

  

General Functions:

The 477 Job Coach will guide and support participants prior to and during job placement so that they may achieve independence in the workplace. The Job Coach serves Alaskan Natives and American Indians living in the greater Anchorage service area and participating in the Tribal Temporary
Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Program, Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance (GA) Program, and Career Development Center employment programs provided by the Employment & Training Services Department (ETSD). This position will provide advocacy, act as a liaison between the employer and the participant, serve as the main point of contact for the participant, and works within a team of staff members providing support to the participant. The common goal for all ETSD program staff is to “walk” with participants on their journey towards developing the strength and skills necessary to successfully obtain and maintain employment. 

Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to

· Ensures the participant is actively pursuing all phases of the job placement processes. 

· Establish rapport and develop a positive working relationship with participant and employer. 

· Assess the competency levels, strengths/skills, interests, and preferences of participants
through tests and counseling. 

· Maintain an active Tribal TANF participant caseload. 

· Will focus on participants obtaining employment, maintaining employment, and advancing in the workplace until independence from Tribal TANF is reached. 

· Conduct workshops and training sessions. 

· Utilize employment resources, in particular the Career Development Center at CITC, and within the community to provide work and training opportunities for participants. 

· Partner with local colleges, schools, and vocational centers to provide training for participants. 

· Develop and capitalize on supported work opportunities with local businesses. 

· Promote, develop, and terminate on-the-job training program opportunities with employers and assist in writing contracts. 

· Provide one-on-one coaching, guidance in job search, and life management; provides problem-solving
support in resolving issues that could result in job loss. 

· Assist participants to develop realistic Employment and/or Family Self Sufficiency plans by identifying the strengths/skills/barriers that lead to a positive employment outcome. 

· Provide participants with worksite visits and home visits. 

· Identify participants’ barriers to employment and assist them in finding solutions to barrier removal. 

· Authorize Supportive Services to eligible TANF participants according to program policy and procedure. 

· Responsible for obtaining, tracking and documenting all pertinent information in each case file electronically utilizing the 477 Database. 

· Update and report participant TANF, GA, WIOA activities & related 477 statistics monthly. 

· Participate in scheduled community meetings as requested. 

· Will work as part of a team: the team includes co-workers, partner agencies, and the participant. 

· Obtain job certification upon management discretion. 

· Perform all other related duties as needed and assigned.

· Working knowledge of Tribal TANF, GA, WIOA programs. 

· Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies and procedures. 

· Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, health, education, and training and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community. 

Minimum Core Competencies

· CITC Values, Professionalism, Emotional Intelligence, Problem Solving/Critical Thinking, Communication Skills. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

· Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Human Resource Management, Social Work, Vocational Education or a closely related field of study; or an Associate’s degree plus two years’ (2) experience as a case manager, job coach, job developer, work adjuster or life skills instructor; or year for year experience in similar field may be supplemented for either degree requirement. 

· Continued employment is contingent upon a report from a state and federal background check. 

· Valid Alaska driver’s license and be insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

· Two (2) years’ experience in social work and workforce development.
