JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:         Accounting Technician I/II (Payroll)

Department:    Finance 

Reports to:      Payroll Administrator                      

Supervises:      None

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Job Type:        Regular, Full-Time

Pay Grade:     I (N5) II (N6)   

 General Functions

The Accounting Technician (Payroll) performs specific payroll operations as related to Cook Inlet Tribal Council. The Accounting Technician (Payroll) will maintain all payroll records and performs various administrative duties.

 Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Accounting Technician I (Payroll):

  • Pre-Audits time-sheets and verifies authenticity and accuracy of data entry, payroll and file maintenance.
  • Ensures that payroll is properly authorized.
  • Ensures accurate preparation and balancing of bi-weekly payrolls.
  • Ensures compliance with company contracts as they relate to payroll and all company policies relating to payroll matters.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate distribution of all payroll checks and direct deposit earnings statements.
  • Handles various payroll adjustments, including: shortages, garnishments, bonuses, child support payments and changes in all voluntary deductions.
  • Maintains all records in connection with payments made on behalf of employees.
  • Participates as a contributing team member.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 Accounting Technician II (Payroll):

  • Prepares and maintains payroll related analysis, statements, projections and any needed reclasses.
  • Manages and maintains shared email for payroll communications with the organization.
  • Maintains good relations with Managers to ensure proper coding of all payroll postings.
  • Monthly reconciliation of all payroll related balance accounts.
  • Assist in the annual preparation of W-2s and year end reporting data
  • Assist in worker’s compensation and annual audits
  • Weekly financial institution payroll related activity and recording transactions.

  • Strong computer skill and demonstrated ability to effectively use computer office programs.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Accounting Technician (Payroll) I

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years data entry experience
  • MS Office Experience (Outlook, Excel)

 Accounting Technician (Payroll) II

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two years related professional payroll experience. 
  • Experience in all relevant payroll functions, including: maintenance, preparation, data entry, balancing and payroll taxes.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory report from a state and federal background check.

 Preferred Qualifications:

ADP payroll processing experience

General Ledger reconciliation experience
