Fab Lab Coordinator – Temporary

JOB STATEMENT/PURPOSE:

The Seasonal Fab Lab Coordinator position is scheduled for October 2021 – June 2022. Working with the Cultural Programs Manager leading the project, the position assists in the completion of the project through combining traditional Alaska Native art and non-traditional materials and providing COVID-19 needed items. May also collaborate with program staff in planning, developing, and implementing other cultural programs and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment, and information
  • Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise
  • Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants
  • Ensure standards and requirements are met through conducting quality assurance tests
  • Responsible the safety and protection of Fab Lab equipment by monitoring and limiting unnecessary loitering in the Fab Lab.

Cultural Education:

  • Interest in learning and sharing about traditional Alaska Native fishing, art, plants, hunting, dancing, storytelling, etc.
  •  Assist in the delivery of and work on a variety of Cultural programs and projects.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Experience with various technology, software, and student-led project designs.
  • Knowledge of Alaska Native cultures
  • Individual will need good communication skills. 
  • Individual must have the ability to multi-task and can use good judgment. 
  • Solid organizational skills, including multitasking and time-management
  • Strong client-facing and teamwork skills

Knowledge:

  • Have basic knowledge of Alaska, Alaska’s history, and Alaska Native cultures. 
  • Have basic understanding of ANHC’s mission, direction, and history or be willing to receive training. 

Skills:

  • Have basic writing and public speaking skills.
  • Be able to prepare reports in word and excel.  
  • Have basic computer skills.
  • Skill in the use of copier, fax, and other office equipment.
  • Have familiarity and interest in 3-D printing, laser engraving, and other fabrication tools.

Abilities:

  • Receive direction and guidance from department supervisors.
  • Work as a team or independently.  
  • Ability to problem solve on own and seek assistance from the supervisor as needed. 
  • Be willing to take leadership responsibility. 
  • Be flexible.  

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Additional duties as assigned based on needs of the business.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Weather:

  • Indoors: Primarily in an environmentally controlled office;
  • Outdoors: Ability to work outside in all weather conditions typical for Anchorage Alaska Summers and /or Winters.

Noise level:

  • Quiet to moderate.

Physical requirements:

  • Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 10 lbs.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
