Library Assistant (Collections Support, ILL, and Outreach)

The Egan Library at the University of Alaska Southeast is seeking a Library Assistant (Collections Support, Interlibrary Loan, and Outreach) to help connect students, faculty, and staff with the information and resources that support teaching, learning, research, and creative activities.

This multifaceted position spans technical services, public services, outreach, and digital collections. Primary responsibilities include supporting collections maintenance through copy cataloging and metadata work; coordinating interlibrary loan services and library events; contributing to the university's institutional repository; providing reference services; and assisting with library outreach, marketing, and social media. The breadth of the role offers an engaging mix of independent project work, public service, and collaboration, ensuring that each day brings variety and new opportunities to learn and contribute.

The successful candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to balance multiple priorities while providing outstanding customer service. They are comfortable learning new technologies and library systems, enjoy solving problems, communicate effectively, adapt to changing priorities, and are equally comfortable working independently or collaborating with colleagues. A curiosity about libraries, higher education, and helping others succeed will serve them well in this role.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma and three years of progressively responsible relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Advanced technical knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards. Familiarity with database software and/or cloud-based applications in a library, museum, business or comparable environment.

Necessary to work some weekday evening shifts and weekend shifts. Reliable transportation is required.
- Preferred: Previous experience with integrated online library systems, library catalogs, circulation systems, and specially interlibrary loan systems, experience identifying specific records in a bibliographic database such as OCLC WorldCat.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Southeast Juneau campus. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/compensation/salary.php, Grade 77, based on education and experience.
