POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting Social Worker/Activities Director in developing the Long Term Care activity program planning and executing activities for the elderly, including outings in the community, art and music programs in the facility, and for any special events. Duties can include purchasing the items needed for activities, setting up rooms for activities and events, overseeing the residents to ensure the residents are safe and following the rules and instructions, training other activities works and promoting the center’s offerings. Tends to the residents needs as allowed and follows the residents care plan in implementing activities suitable for each resident. Assists the Social Worker/Activities Director as directed. Supports a dignified and caring atmosphere with residents, resident’s families, visitors and staff.   Reports to Social Worker/Activities Director or designee.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for appropriate documentation of participation and assists in care planning.
  2. Assist with activities per the residents’ care plan.
  3. Leads or assists in the monthly resident council meeting and acts as a liaison to the Long Term Care Administrator for issues that arise.
  4. Maintains confidentiality concerning patient care information and records at all times.
  5. Provides written reports of activities to the Regional Elders Council as directed.
  6. Assists in preparing the quarterly report to the Maniilaq Board of Directors.
  7. Assists the elders to shopping and attending events outside of Long Term Care.
  8. Serves on the Monthly elder pot luck in Long Term Care

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a valid AK driver’s license.  Must pass an on-line activities designee certification within 12 months after hire.  Must have computer knowledge and experience in elder services preferred. Familiar with the Northwest Region, people and culture. Knowledge of cultural and social conditions within the geographic area in which services are provided is preferred.

Increases depending on experience, education and as determined by the hiring manager.
