POSITION SUMMARY

Plans and schedules Biomedical engineering activities for the hospital.  Applies mechanical and electronics skills to analyze, maintain, and correct malfunctions in electrical patient care equipment. Conducts training in electrical safety and in the operation and care of patient care equipment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plans and schedules Biomedical engineering activities for the hospital and village clinics.
2. Determines priorities for utilization of resources; applies mechanical and electronics skills to analyze, maintain, and correct malfunctions in electrical patient care equipment.
3. Inspects and evaluates new equipment before it is put into use.  Inspects and certifies the safe operation of patient and employee personal electrical equipment brought for use at the hospital.
4. Assists in training on the operation and care of patient care equipment.
5. Maintains an equipment management database for maintenance and testing records in accordance with the standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
6. May provide Biomedical engineering services at other service units as directed.
7. Serves as a member of other hospital committees as assigned.
8. Provides repair and preventive maintenance for bio-medical and dental equipment in the villages and in the Maniilaq Health Center.
9. Travels in small planes on a regular basis, and is routinely required to lift and/or carry equipment/tools in excess of 50 pounds.
10.  May spend percentage of the time in the villages providing in support of program objectives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma.  Associate Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, plus four years directly relevant work experience. Military or demonstrated work experience may be considered. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of biomedical instruments and equipment; have ability to read and interpret technical data specifications and drawings; have ability to use test, measurement and diagnostic equipment.
