GVEA is an electric cooperative that owns and maintains 3,491 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 35 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, Clear Space Force Station, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, which extends from Homer to Fairbanks. As a Meter Technician at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will play an important role in ensuring accurate electric metering and reliable service for residential and commercial members throughout Interior Alaska. In this field-based position, you will install, read, inspect, maintain, connect, and disconnect electric meters, and accurately document service activities to support billing and revenue collection.
You will troubleshoot meter issues, inspect equipment for defects or unauthorized connections, respond to member concerns regarding usage and billing, and provide support for service orders and field operations. Responsibilities also include delivering disconnect notices, collecting payments in the field, and ensuring all work is performed in accordance with GVEA's safety standards and procedures.
Additionally, you will support engineering and system operations by assisting with network troubleshooting, field surveys, power line patrols, pole attachment inspections, and outage restoration efforts. This position offers the opportunity to work independently in a dynamic outdoor environment while making a direct impact on member service and the reliability of GVEA's electric system.

To succeed as a Meter Technician at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid Alaska driver's license with a good driving record. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong customer service skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while interacting professionally with members in a variety of field situations.
The ideal candidate will be dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather conditions. This position requires the ability to work in close proximity to energized electrical equipment, communicate effectively via radio and in person, and accurately complete service orders and field documentation. Candidates should also be able to read maps, follow technical instructions, and respond appropriately to challenging situations involving aggressive pets or hostile customers.
Previous experience in a related field and basic electrical knowledge are preferred but not required. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy problem-solving, working independently, and providing excellent service while supporting the reliability of GVEA's electric system.
