Accounting Intern

JOB STATEMENT/PURPOSE:
Alaska Native Heritage Center is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Intern to support our finance team. This internship provides hands-on experience with financial reporting, bookkeeping, reconciliations, and administrative accounting tasks. The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and is eager to learn in a professional environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Data Entry into the various systems, including Bill.com,
Certify.com, Planning Pod, and QuickBooks accounting system of Vendor Bills, Customer Invoices and Facility Reservation Orders.
Daily Sales data entry for Admissions, Gift Shop, Café, Facility Rentals, and other revenue streams.
Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
Prepare and maintain financial records and spreadsheets
Support bank reconciliations and account balancing
Help process invoices, receipts, and expense reports
Assist with monthly closing activities
Organize and file accounting documents
Perform data entry with accuracy and attention to detail
Support audits and other financial projects as needed
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Basic understanding of accounting principles
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
Strong organizational and communication skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information
Prior internship or office experience is a plus but not required
Essential Skills
Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Basic understanding of accounting principles
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information
Prior internship or office experience is a plus but not required
Good problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks
Ability to use accounting software, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Additional duties assigned based on needs of the business.
