Estimator Summary:
Position requires a self-starter with experience in all phases of construction estimating including proposal preparation, quantity surveys, supplier and subcontractor solicitations, manpower production rates, logistic methods, preparation of documents, and preparation of estimates, primarily for contracting opportunities located within all areas of Alaska, ranging from $100K - $30 million plus.

Essential Functions:
• Read, understand and analyze project plans, specifications and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
• Prepare cost estimates for construction projects and / or other contract services as requested to aid management in bidding on or determining price of product or service.
• Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
• Ability to make detailed comparisons of subcontractor and supplier quotes to determine best value.
• Ability to execute estimates or proposals from inception to final submittal.
• Ability to organize and delegate assignments to fellow teammates for large scale estimates.
• Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
• Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
• Prepare estimates used by management for such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
• Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
• Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
• Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
• Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.
• Create initial project construction schedules.
• Will travel to job sites on occasion.
• Will assist the project managers from pre-construction to close-out.

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

• Communicate verbally and in writing with a professional and effective manner.
• Detailed understanding of construction techniques for industrial, mechanical, concrete, civil, general construction, and management of subcontractors.
• Technical skills are a necessity, including: excellent written, and verbal skills.
• Requires analytical, critical-thinking and technical skills.
• Ability to work under strict deadlines.
• Thorough knowledge/background in commercial construction. Federal project experience is preferred.
• Must be able to perform multiple tasks and handle multiple priorities, and have the ability to perform exceptionally under high stress conditions.
• Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages.
• Proficiency of the Microsoft Office Suites.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles, involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction industry.
• Ability to manage estimates and proposal processes from start to finish with self-sufficiency.
• Ability to listen to and follow directives from upper management.
• Desire to be part of a team environment.

Required Experience:
• 5 years of commercial/industrial estimating experience.
• Previous Timberline or other estimating program experience.
• Competent understanding of logistic challenges.
• Competent understanding of cost and accounting methodology.
