Who are we? An Introduction

GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Powering the Interior of Alaska, GVEA contributes to the economic, environmental, and social viability of our communities.

As the Environmental Officer at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will lead the environmental department in delivering essential compliance and permitting support for all GVEA power plants and facilities. Your role will involve interfacing with regulatory agencies, executive management, and staff to ensure adherence to current and future environmental regulations, particularly focusing on air quality, water quality, and waste management. By fostering a proactive environmental culture, you will play a critical part in ensuring GVEA meets all regulatory compliance, reporting, and recordkeeping requirements. To excel as the Environmental Officer at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates should possess strong analytical skills are essential for interpreting complex environmental regulations and developing compliance strategies. Proficiency in environmental management software and tools is crucial for effective reporting and recordkeeping. Additionally, effective communication skills are necessary for interfacing with regulatory agencies and collaborating with GVEA's executive management and staff. A valid Alaska driver's license is required, enabling you to conduct site visits and engage with various stakeholders effectively. This role demands a commitment to fostering a proactive environmental culture while maintaining compliance standards.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors of Science (BS) degree in Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering with minimum of six years' relevant experience

or

  • Four year degree in a hard or natural science with minimum of eight years' relevant experience

or

  • Four year degree with a minimum of ten years' relevant experience.

CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must possess valid Alaska driver's license.
