JOB DESCRIPTION 

Job Title:          Group Facilitator, CFSD 

Department:     Child & Family Services Department (CFSD) 

Reports to:       Senior Director, Child and Family Services 

Supervises:      None 

FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt 

Pay Grade:       N4 

Job Type:         Full-time, Regular

General Functions: 
 

The Group Facilitator provides direct services in both group and individual settings with a goal of promoting and enhancing responsible parenting and relationship skills for parents.  The Group Facilitator will provide didactic and experiential skill development and group processing from an identified curriculum to enhance responsible parenting, self-sufficiency and family stability.  This includes conducting intake and ongoing needs assessments and limited case management to coordinate other project service delivery as the entry into services for participants.  The Group Facilitator will outreach to guest speakers as needed and will lead parent gathering activities within CFSD and in cooperation with other departments as needed.      

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Obtain required information by interviewing participants and reviewing collateral information. 

  • Provide group and individual didactic teaching/modeling of skills and facilitate group processing to promote child growth/development, safety, home structure/management, community access, and social skills. 

  • Foster participant’s skill development by observing patterns of behavior; explaining and pointing out new options and demonstrating and practicing new skills as necessary.  

  • Obtain assistance for participants by referring them to community resources, arranging for or assisting participants to access appointments and establishing rapport with other agencies. 

  • Maintain record of case by documenting participant’s situation and participant’s own actions in an objective manner in observation reports and prescribed formats to track participant progress. 

  • Coordinate educational, practical application and peer-led activities with Group Services Manager and other CFS staff. 

  • Mentor participants to engage in peer-led activities. 

  • Coordinate effective delivery of services and outcome evaluation with CFSD Director. 

  • Maintain organization compliance by submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports. 

  • Maintain professional interactions with participants and community collaborators. 

  • Maintain operations by following policies and procedures, participating in quality reviews, and reporting needed changes. 

  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions. 

  • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.  

  • Performs all related duties as assigned.

  • Strong understanding of child development and parent education. 

  • Must be able to work evenings and flexible schedules. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work as an active participant in a team environment. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, health, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community. 

  • Proficient computer skills. 

 

 Minimum Core Competencies: CITC Values, Respectful Leadership, Professionalism, Emotional Intelligence, Problem Solving/Critical Thinking, Communication Skills  

 Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor of Arts or Sciences in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field; or year-for-year experience and at least two (2) years related experience 

  • Full competency in the delivery of educational and supportive group services. 

  • Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of satisfactory report from a state and federal background check. 

  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver’s license for at least three years. 

 

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working in a non-profit or social services setting.
