Who We Are Seeking: a dedicated and enthusiastic coach for the Chickaloon Village Native Youth Olympics (NYO) team, serving athletes in 1st through 12th grades. You must be a positive role model who embodies patience and passion for teaching traditional games. Your role will be to support each athlete in embracing the cultural teachings and values inherent in these games. You will assist athletes during practices and accompany them to up to eight competitions throughout the season, from October 2024 to April 2025.

 

Additional Responsibilities: You will assist with transporting athletes to and from practice two to three times per week. Travel throughout the winter and spring months is required for this position to attend competitions throughout the state of Alaska.

 

Qualifications, Education & Experience: 

  • 1 to 2 years of relevant coaching experience is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and leadership skills; including the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain cooperative relationships and work successfully as a member of a team.
  • Excellent time management, problem-solving and organizational skills, with a proven ability to meet sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to function well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software.

 

Certificates and Licenses Required: A valid Alaska Driver’s license is required for this position and the ability to be insured on CVTC’s vehicle insurance policy.

 

Pre-Employment Drug Screening and Background Check: This position requires you to complete and pass a pre-employment state and federal background check and drug screening as a condition of employment.

 

Hiring Preferences: As allowed in P.L. 93-638, preference for employment will be given to Alaska Native and American Indian peoples. CVTC also applies family and local hiring preferences.
