JOB SUMMARY

The Children’s Behavioral Health Clinician will determine the nature of client’s situation, initiate treatment plan, provide individual and family counseling, facilitate all aspects of clinical care, and document progress.  Clinician will be responsible for general coordination of counseling services and have sufficient personal mobility to complete field work at various locations. Position will require flexible work schedule to include evening and weekend hours as necessary.  Perform other duties as required and assigned.

 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides clinical behavioral health services to Tribal members between the ages of two and twenty (2 - 20) who are experiencing mental health symptoms.
  • Provide services including individual and family psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and rehabilitation services as necessary.
  • Provide individual and family counseling for an array of mental health symptoms.
  • Perform screenings, intake and assessment, interview client, family members, and others (as necessary), assess medical, emotional, social and educational information.
  • Provide information and outreach intervention services to Tribal members as requested.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and objectives.
  • Provide timely and thorough documentation in compliance with department, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Provide referrals to appropriate agencies and other related services. 
  • Work effectively with other community and state agencies to provide a collaborative continuum of care for mutual clients.
  • Follow professional code of ethics including confidentiality, individual rights, professional and legal issues in providing services.
  • Participate in required clinical staffing and weekly supervision within the Behavioral Health Department as well as with other outside agencies as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Possess current valid State of Alaska driver's license with a record acceptable to KIC’s Insurance carrier.
  • Alaska State licensure as LCSW, LPC, LMFT, Psychological Associate required.
  • Master Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
  • Two – five years post graduate work experience required.
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including two (2) doses of a 2-dose series or one (1) dose of a 1-dose series plus fourteen (14) (days beyond the final dose prior to start date.

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of state and federal guidelines for clinical programs and “best practice” techniques;
  • Knowledge of social problems experienced by Alaska Natives and American Indians;
  • Knowledge of symptoms and diagnostic requirements for mental illnesses in children and teens;
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant counseling techniques and ceremonies;
  • Knowledge of alcohol and substance abuse services available in the community and some familiar with state-wide services;
  • Knowledge and ability to carry out federal confidentiality rules for clients seeking substance abuse services;
  • Knowledge and ability to carry out rules of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPAA), which protects patient rights;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally over the telephone and in person in a clear and positive manner;
  • Ability to provide behavioral health treatment services to children and families in a clinical and community-based setting;
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment in evaluating specific situations and recommending solutions;
  • Ability to listen, observe, and record a variety of information and situations;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with clients, peers, public and private agencies, Tribal members, and the general public;
  • Ability to utilize maximum degree of professionalism and diplomacy with those who may be experiencing high degrees of stress both mentally and/or physically;
  • Ability to be flexible in order to perform at the highest level as a team player;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and able to prioritize assignments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand and/or sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.  The noise level in the work environment is usually average.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a small office with limited storage, filing and workspace.  People asking    questions/directions frequently interrupt incumbent.  Some work is performed in conference rooms, Zoom, or Telehealth.

 

CONDITIONS OF HIRE

  • May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license or capable of obtaining one, as well as be insurable by KIC’s company insurance.
  • KIC is a Drug-Free Workplace. All employees must adhere to KIC drug and alcohol policies and procedures to ensure a safe workplace. Employees must pass a pre-employment and subsequent random and/or for cause drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment.
  • KIC has several positions that must comply with the P.L. 101-630 Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act (ICPA); all employment offers in the "covered" classification are conditional until KIC has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs.
