As a Security Analyst at the University of Alaska, you'll have a direct impact on improving security, reducing risk, and ensuring the continuity of business operations at UA's 20+ locations throughout the state of Alaska. Security Operations is responsible for a number of critical functions, including incident response, firewall management, operation and maintenance of a variety of cybersecurity tools and services, education and outreach to the UA community on topics like security awareness, data handling, privacy and compliance, etc. You'll be part of a collaborative team providing excellent service to the University of Alaska system. We are seeking to hire two Security Analyst positions from this posting. This position does require occasional travel within and outside of Alaska and participation on a rotating on-call schedule.

Daily Work

On a typical day you will monitor cloud services, endpoints, and networks to prevent/detect breaches and other security issues. You may install and manage firewalls, configure or monitor applications and services, perform pentests, communicate with other internal stakeholders to assess and improve security, or support audit, assessment, or compliance efforts. Every day you will collaborate with your teammates (other Analysts, Engineers, and Student Analysts) to support enterprise-wide security initiatives.

To thrive in this position, you should enjoy solving problems, be able to track and actively manage your time appropriately in response to changing priorities. You should enjoy working independently or collaborating in a group setting, have strong written and verbal communication skills, enjoy researching cybersecurity topics, awareness, and best practices, and feel comfortable collaborating and presenting in person or online with both your peers and others across university departments. You should have a passion for learning and growing.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field OR an equivalent combination of training, education, and documented professional experience.

Position Details:

This position can be based at the University of Alaska Anchorage, University of Alaska Fairbanks, or University of Alaska Southeast, and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php.
