Assistant Professor of Developmental Mathematics (Tenure Track)

UAF's Community and Technical College (CTC) is seeking a Tenure Track Assistant Professor to teach Developmental Mathematics for the Department of Developmental Education. Successful applicant will be responsible for teaching the entire spectrum of Developmental Mathematics with opportunities for teaching first year college and technical program mathematics courses. Courses may be taught face-to-face or by distance (synchronous, asynchronous, or hybrid).

 

As a Developmental Math faculty, you will help lay the foundation for students to be successful in their higher education endeavors by teaching all levels of Foundational Mathematics. You will also participate on the Foundational Mathematics curriculum committee and may be involved in our Math Study Skills prerequisite course and possibly teaching some General Education Requirement level mathematics at the Community College (CTC). As a bipartite faculty member your position will include a service component which will involve Department and University wide committees and some community service. You will be assigned a mentor who can help you with any questions you have regarding the coursework or committee work.

 

To be successful in this role you must have an enthusiasm for helping students achieve their academic goals. We deal with students who have a great deal of math anxiety and severe lack of self-confidence so you must be compassionate and able to help students gain confidence while maintaining the rigorous demands of the required mathematical curriculum.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

At minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or a Math intensive Science field, AND working on a Master's degree in math, math education or a math intensive science field AND have a minimum of 2 years teaching experience at the undergraduate or developmental level (in college courses). A Masters in Mathematics or Mathematics Education or a related field is preferred.

 

Position Details:

 

This position will be in-person and will be located on the UA Fairbanks campus.
