General Functions  

Under the direction of the Director of IT and Business Intelligence, collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs, extract and analyze data, and develop interactive dashboards and custom reports to empower decision-makers with timely and relevant insights. This position plays a critical role in the interpretation of data across multiple platforms, transforming complex results into actionable insights to drive business decisions.  

Data Collection and Management 

  • Design, implement, and maintain optimal data collection and storage strategies to ensure accessibility and reliability of data.  

  • Develop and maintain data models and schemas to support reporting and analytics needs, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.  

  • Extract, clean, and transform data from various sources using SQL queries and ETL processes. 

  • Collaborate with IT teams and business users to set up and maintain automated data processes. 

  • Implement policies and procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure compliance with data privacy and data protection standards and best practices. 

  • Maintain data integrity by ensuring data quality and accuracy in all reporting and analysis outputs. 

Data Analysis and Interpretation 

  • Collaborate with business and functional areas to identify and document business requirements, translating them into technical specifications for dashboard and custom report development. 

  • Prepare and analyze data, including researching and acquiring external sources of data, data mining, profiling, cleansing, extracting, mapping, importing, transforming, validating, and modeling.  

  • Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive business performance and inform strategic decision-making. 

  • Interpret results of analyses, identify trends and issues, and develop recommendations to support business objectives and business process improvement. 

  • Communicate complex information so that it is easy to understand and influences others to take action based on the information provided. 

  • Analyze internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement. 

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, presenting insights and recommendations clearly and compellingly. 

Reporting and Visualization 

  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive and visually appealing dashboards and reports, ensuring accessibility and usability for stakeholders and creating visual pathways to key performance metrics. 

  • Translate business requirements into intuitive and informative data visualizations, leveraging best practices in data visualization design.  

  • Optimize dashboard performance and data refresh schedules to ensure timely and accurate reporting, performance, and usability for enhanced user experience, troubleshooting issues as needed. 

  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of dashboards and reports to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and reliability. 

  • Provide training and support to end-users on business intelligence software usage, best practices, and self-service analytics capabilities. 

  • Translate data findings into actionable insights through clear visual, written, and verbal communication. 

  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in business intelligence and data visualization, recommending and implementing process improvements and tool enhancements. 

Skills/Abilities 

  • Knowledge of relational database concepts, with technical expertise in data modeling, database design and development, and data mining  

  • Strong proficiency with MS SQL Server, including the ability to develop and troubleshoot complex SQL queries. Familiarity with other query languages (eg. PL/SQL) is a plus. 

  • Proficiency with data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI, or similar). 

  • Experience with reporting tools such as SQL Server Reporting Services and Report Builder. 

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy. 

  • Demonstrated experience making decisions, taking action, meeting deadlines, and working independently. 

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear and concise manner to non-technical audiences.  

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster positive working relationships and effectively collaborate with cross functional teams. 

  • Continuous learner, staying up to date with industry trends and advancements in data analysis technologies. 

  • Preferred experience in any of the following: XML, Visual Studio, SSIS, ETL tools, ZenOptics 

Education and Experience 

  • BS degree or similar degree with major course work in information technology, business systems analysis, statistics, data analytics, or related areas 

  • 4 years technical experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or related roles 

  • 4 years technical experience in data visualization tools and techniques, preferably Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server.
