The Geophysical Institute Permafrost Laboratory (GIPL) seeks a geospatial data analyst to work on grant-funded environmental monitoring and assessment projects. The GIPL conducts a wide range of research centered around the response of permafrost to ongoing climate change and associated impacts on the built and natural environment. We are looking for a team member to assist with the collection and analysis of a range of spatial datasets. This position includes the opportunity to support projects focused on permafrost-affected coastal change, permafrost-infrastructure interactions and associated hazard map development, and mass-movement mapping and monitoring.

 

To thrive in this role, candidates should have extensive knowledge of GIS tools and programs including ArcPro, Q GIS, and ArcOnline; programming experience with R, Python, or similar; and experience in creating cartographic products with spatial data and field observations. Additional qualifications include experience with data visualization using the Adobe suite (e.g. Illustrator and Photoshop), familiarity with Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques, and knowledge of GIS database creation and management. The ability to work closely with co-workers and supervisors and prepare and present research to internal and external groups both in written and oral form is also an important component of this role.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

One year college coursework in a field relevant to the research (e.g. natural resource management or geographic information systems) and one year experience in a field relevant to the research (e.g. natural resource management, environmental consulting, cartographic analysis) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

Position Details:

 

This is a term-funded, one year position. Review of contract renewal will be on an annual basis at the University's discretion and is contingent upon additional budget support being secured for this position. Hybrid and remote work options within the United States will be considered.
