As the Communications Lead for the International Arctic Research Center (IARC), you will ensure that our innovative and impactful research makes a positive difference in the world. In this role, you'll guide both short-term and long-term communication initiatives to success. Collaborating closely with IARC's leadership, you'll shape our communication plan and contribute to strategic decision-making. In this role, you'll be the go-to person for public relations and media engagement at IARC. You'll handle media inquiries, draft press releases, and cultivate relationships with journalists and relevant organizations. You'll work with scientists and research teams to generate various communication materials, from online content to creative products, ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout.

Your responsibilities will include maintaining our website and other promotional materials, managing the editorial calendar, working closely across the institute and with our partners, and coordinating with communication professionals within IARC and across campus. Compliance with regulations and staying updated on industry standards will be crucial, as will advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.

To succeed in this role, candidates should possess at least four years of experience effectively conveying scientific or technical subjects to multiple diverse audiences, and a demonstrated ability to write and edit for non-scientific audiences. Proficiency in utilizing multiple communication methods and channels is essential. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, possess strong interpersonal communication skills, and be adaptable to various team roles. Candidates must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite, Google Drive, and the Adobe Creative Suite. Successful candidates should be comfortable working with scientists, familiar with Arctic and climate science, or have experience working in a science or research-focused environment. Minimum Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in public relations, journalism, communications or related field. Four years of progressively responsible experience relevant to the program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience preferred. Experience coordinating science communication efforts across a large team or organization. Eperience with media inquiries, writing press releases, and/or working with journalists. Experience communicating scientific topics with broad audiences and across multiple communication channels.

Master's degree preferred.

Location:

This position will be located at the University of Fairbanks Troth Yeddha' Campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. Flexible, hybrid work may be considered while following the University guidelines and regulations and the scope of the work. We offer competitive compensation, this position is full time, exempt, at a Grade 80. This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
