General Functions: 

The Educational Project Lead will direct and support teacher retention efforts by teaching basic principles of digital design, STEAM education, cultural awareness, and land-based community research to CITC partner educators. This position will support the development and implementation of Culturally Based Instructional (CBI) Unit’s and activities with partner schools/locations These units will help teachers and paraprofessionals support the youth of their community in meeting the Alaska State Cultural Standards and build belonging in their school, community, and culture. The Educational Project Lead will provide regular coaching to partner educators as they implement CBI Units and participate in CITC Fab Lab training.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize innovative & culturally responsive instructional techniques congruent with Native learning styles.
  • Draft, develop, and assess STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) focused CBI Units for schools and the Fab Lab, in collaboration with the Fab Lab Instructors.
  • Update current curriculum and create worksheets and kits that support Fab Lab curriculum, with support from the Fab Lab Trainer.
  • Support the management of the CITC Fab Lab web-based library.
  • Support Fab Lab training for both partner educators, partner community members, and CITC staff as needed.
  • Support partner teachers during Fab Lab Educator Camp and training, supporting connections to their work and community.
  • Coordinate with partner schools and CITC staff to implement the goals and objectives of the teacher retention project (Innovating Teacher Retention in Alaska). 
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data, surveys and program information on a quarterly basis, and as implementation occurs. 
  • Verify all program reports internally and externally are submitted in a timely manner, ensuring the program is prepared for internal and grant required audits. 
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships and ensure effective and timely written and oral communications with partner educators, community members, staff and other personnel.
  • Establish and develop partnering opportunities when possible.
  • Travel to partner sites to provide program support, teacher coaching, and data collection/assessments. 
  • Participate in scheduled CITC meetings and community meetings off site as requested.
  • Participate in all required training and project partnership planning meetings.   
  • Facilitate training on curricula for all the Fab Lab partners, YES Dept. teachers and participants, in collaboration with Fab Lab Instructors, ensuring that all program teachers complete the required training.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, educational, training and cultural needs of the Alaska Native/American Indian community.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with and ability to become proficient with the CITC Fab Lab soft- ware, equipment, safety rules, and project plans. 
  • Ability to conduct interactive and participatory learning sessions for adult learners.
  • Ability to provide ongoing coaching and support for adult learners.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a contributory team member a positive, productive member. 
  • Ability to use sound judgment when interacting with staff and participants of various ages and backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner. 
  • Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with various variables in 
  • situations where only limited resources exist. 
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in the field of education, human services, curriculum development, planning and evaluation, or STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math). Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience working in education. 
  • Two (2) years of experience creating and implementing lesson plans and/or curriculum.
  • Ability to lift 30-50lbs regularly.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal background check.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver’s license for at least three years. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with Alaska Native people, knowledge of their values and belief systems and ability to provide culturally competent services.
  • Experience working with Tribal organizations and/or within Alaska Native/American Indian communities.
  • Experience working in education in a rural Alaska community.
