ANSEP Middle School Academy is seeking a Career Explorations Program Manager for our summer programming. Career Explorations is a residential 5 day STEM program that supports 6th through 8th grade students who are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and who are alumni of our Middle School Academy. Career Explorations allow the students to be immersed into different jobs within a specific career field. The 2024 summer has three sessions; Field Ecology, Marine Science in Juneau, and Renewable Energy. The Program Manager will assist supervisors in implementing programs, managing staff and supporting students throughout their experience with ANSEP. The Program Manager position will oversee student academic and social activities, student residence life experiences, departmental duties, compliance in risk management aimed at ANSEP students, ANSEP van driving and more. Program manager works closely with ANSEP Directors to ensure student's programming needs are met. This role also involves program promotion, student support services, data analysis, and coordination of various aspects related to student success within the ANSEP program.

To excel in this position, the candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, as they will be managing up to 10 staff & students and participating in activities as directed by their supervisor(s). They should have an understanding of science concepts, university policies, and FERPA regulation. The candidate will need excellent organizational skills, the ability to handle dynamic student activities and events, and have the capacity to plan and execute activities. The candidate should be comfortable driving in Alaska road conditions in all seasons. The candidate should also be a responsible employee under Title IX and stay current with annual training.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an Education or STEM related field. Three years progressively responsible relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. At least one year of experience managing staff or a student-based program. Preferred experience with grades 6-8.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

• Ability to teach and prepare hands-on lessons in STEM content.

• Knowledgeable of the google suite and record keeping.

• Decision-making strategies and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to interpret information to determine student placement.

• Knowledge of, and the ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, processes, policies, and procedures related to higher and middle school education. Ability to supervise budgets.

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize own work and shift between tasks that need to be accomplished along similar and different timescales.

• Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.

• Experience with a program that supports student success, such as a tutoring, coaching, mentoring, or advising program.

• Experience supervising staff.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Anchorage campus. This is a temporary, full-time, exempt staff position. New hires will be placed on the https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/compensation/files/fy24_temp_staff_salary_grid.pdf, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
