The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for the position of Financial Aid Advisor within the Office of Financial Aid. The Office of Financial Aid is an innovative team committed to providing students equitable access to financial aid while maintaining regulatory and institutional compliance. The office processes financial aid applications for over 18,000 applicants at all five UAA campuses and are responsible for the timely and accurate disbursement of over $70 million in financial aid annually. The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for a wide range of duties in support of undergraduate and graduate students and their financial aid needs. This position involves a great deal of attention-to-detail and ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and institutional policies. Financial Aid Advisors work directly with students, assisting them throughout the financial aid application and awarding process. Occasional remote work schedule is available with supervisor approval. Some evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate student needs. The Office of Financial Aid is critical in helping UAA achieve these aspirations through a customer-centric attitude toward the transactional work that flows through our office. The department is retooling processes and work to ensure the time and effort of the office and the departments we work with is focused on achieving the aspirations by 2025.

Expert functional understanding of financial aid management systems and on-line student academic records systems (preferably Banner); Knowledge of University systems to be able to refer students to appropriate area for assistance. Knowledge of best practices, federal and state laws and legal issues associated with and applicable to financial aid and higher education. Knowledge of marketing/advertising principles. Advanced public speaking skills. Ability to troubleshoot situations to determine the best course of action. Ability to work as an influential part of a team. Ability to apply theories gained through experience and education. Understand and comply with safeguarding procedures for confidential records per FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act). Strong organizational skills with the ability to carry out multiple tasks in a timely manner. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Annual participation in Department of Education, NASFAA, regional and/or state offered financial aid training sessions.
Understanding and adherence to the Federal Right to Privacy Act of 1974 as amended.

Two or more years of professional experience performing work that requires the consistent application of highly complex regulations; Experience using technology to streamline processes; Data entry and retrieval in multiple types of computer programs; Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and conflict-resolution skills; good judgment, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to interact with diverse constituencies; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work both on a team and independently; project management skills; strong computer skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

An Associate's degree in a related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of federal financial aid rules and regulations. Experience working in a customer service field, preferably with finances above and beyond typical retail sales.

This position is located on the UA campus in Anchorage.
