TRIO Upward Bound Summer Student Assistant

TRIO Upward Bound (UB) is looking for student workers to assist in the 6-week college-preparatory summer program for Upward Bound. UB is a grant-funded program that serves 120 limited-income or potentially first-generation college students from Bartlett and West Anchorage High School to prepare them to successfully complete high school and enroll in post secondary education. Each summer UB offers a 6-week summer program for participants to continue developing skills to prepare for college, including various field trips and excursions. The position runs May 6-July 19 with courses running June 3-28. The position is full-time at $18.00 per hour.

To thrive in this role, applicants must be able to work assigned hours and be dependable. They also must be able to work with staff, students, participant parents/guardians and community members while supporting general program activities and able to work with students from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. They must also have strong interpersonal skills, able to use a variety of technology and computer programs used around campus, be able to work independently with minimum supervision with high school students of varying abilities, and be able to positively represent the institution and the program.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must be UAA students enrolled for at least 6 credits in the fall semester. Preference given to candidates with previous experience in tutoring, mentoring and/or teaching.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a full-time, non-exempt student worker position that runs from May 6 to July 19. Pay is $18.00 per hour.

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
