TRIO Upward Bound (UB) is looking for Adjunct Professors to instruct high school students in a variety of topics as a part of a 6 week college-preparatory summer program. UB is a grant-funded program that serves 120 limited-income or potentially first-generation college students from Bartlett and West Anchorage High School to prepare them to successfully complete high school and enroll in post secondary education. Each summer UB offers a 6-week summer program for participants to continue developing skills to prepare for college. The position runs May 13-June 28 with courses starting June 3. The time before courses start is for training and course preparation. The program is hiring for adjuncts for English, math, science, world language, and elective courses. Previous courses have included Podcasting and Public Speaking (English), Yoga/Sanskrit and American Sign Language (World Language), programming and natural history (science), as well as Salsa Dancing, Journalism and Debate (elective).

The daily schedule will vary depending on the course. Courses will run Monday through Thursday with the following tentative schedule:
Math Monday and Wednesday 9:00am-10:25am
Science Tuesday and Thursday 9:00am-10:25am
English Monday and Wednesday 10:35am-12:00pm
World Language Tuesday and Thursday 10:35am-12:00pm
Electives Tuesday and Thursday 1:05pm-2:30pm

There are multiple positions available for each area.

Summer instructors for TRIO Upward Bound will be responsible for the development of course curriculum, delivery of the content, and the oversight of student safety and engagement throughout their contracted time with the program.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree/Master's degree in field related to the position, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a temporary adjunct position with up to 20 hours per pay period between May 13 and June 28, including 3 hours per week of lessons June 3-June 28. Pay is per hour and is based on the number of previous semesters teaching experience within the University of Alaska, past experience with the program, or a base pay of $30 per hour.

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.
