As a Staff Chemist, you will gain experience working on intriguing Alaska-themed research projects, utilize some of the most advanced cutting-edge analytical equipment available, and work as part of a dynamic team in a supportive environment with a flexible schedule.

The Applied Science Engineering and Technology (ASET) Laboratory is the most advanced and comprehensive analytical chemistry facility in the State of Alaska, containing over $5 million worth of recently-purchased analytical equipment in a modern, up-to-date, laboratory setting.

The laboratory is located in Anchorage, Alaska, the largest city in the State with nearly 300,000 population and access to world-class recreational opportunities. The UAA campus is situated in a beautiful natural setting at the base of the Chugach Mountains in the U-Med district. The laboratory focuses on supporting research projects in environmental and biomedical science, providing student training, and providing analytical service. ASET is recruiting for a full-time staff chemist.

This position is supervised by the the laboratory director and is primarily focused on analytical support (water, tissues, biofluids, etc.). Most analytical work will involve ICP-MS, ion chromatography, and LC/MS. Occasional use of other equipment may involve NMR, TOC, GC/MS, Orbitrap MS, laser ablation, solvent evaporator, centrifuge, lyophilizer, and other automated equipment.

To thrive in this role, the applicant would have an interest in interdisciplinary Arctic-themed research projects, good interpersonal skills, and a willingness to learn new techniques.

Preference given to applicants with prior experience operating ICP-MS, LC/MS, and Ion Chromatography systems. Preference given to applicants with a Master's degree in a physical, natural, or life science field such as Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Biomedicine, Geology, Geochemistry, Physics, or a related field.

Minimum Qualifications:

Position Details:

This position is located on the UA campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience, starting at $27.06/hourly ($2,164.80/pay period).
