The Mather Library, part of the Geophysical Institute, seeks an experienced science librarian to lead in nurturing, managing, and developing the collection that serves the geoscience and UAF community. This position will oversee the most northern special library in the United States. The library supports the research of the Geophysical Institute, the International Arctic Research Center, and the geophysical research community. In this position, you will represent the Mather Library to UAF's faculty, staff, and students, providing instruction, outreach, and collection management services related to science information resources. You will work collaboratively with other campus library units (for example, the Rasmuson Library staff) to acquire and make available both print and online library information resources in the geosciences.

 

You will work on collection development with the Mather Library Advisory Committee and GI's Faculty Council, allocate budget, and promote library resources and services. You will collaborate with other UAF faculty and staff, provide specialized instruction sessions to promote library resources and services and create library awareness among the GI and other university community members. You will also create outreach programs that will highlight and encourage the use of the library's resources.

 

To thrive in this position, you should be experienced in managing collections, be a self-starter, and have excellent outreach and communication skills. The ability to collaborate within the Geophysical Institute and with other campus library units to ensure that we offer the best resources available to our faculty and students.

 

This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. The successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office on the first day of employment.

 

Required Experience:

 

Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MIL or MILS) from an ALA-accredited institution or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution.

 

Experience with library collection development in an academic environment

 

Position Details:

 

This position is located on the main UAF campus in Fairbanks, AK. This is a full-time, 9-month base contract with a 3-month contract extension, continuing faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php.
