The Orientation Leader is an integral part of the new student orientation team within the First-Year Experience office and facilitates the integration of new students and families into the University of Alaska Anchorage. Responsibilities of this position include:

-Serve as a positive peer leader and mentor for first-year students at the University of Alaska Anchorage
-Lead Howl Days Orientation sessions for incoming students (present information and lead activities)
-Lead campus tours both in person and virtually
-Reach out and connect with prospective and incoming students via phone and email
-Assist with the development and implementation of new student orientation activities
-Coordinate and facilitate Seawolves Connect, a peer mentorship program that allows students to meet 1-on-1 with an Orientation Leader
-Work in partnership with UAA campus partners to support students in understanding course placement options and registering for classes
-Serve as a campus resource by learning and sharing information about departments and resources across campus
-Other duties as assigned

We are looking for student employees who have high energy and great communication skills to work with new students and assist with Howl Days orientation events.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be eligible for student employment as an Orientation Leader, an applicant must: a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment or b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and c. Have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee. d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer. e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

Position Details:

This student position is a Level 2 Step 8 and earns $13.03 per hour.

Orientation Leaders work May 7, 2024 through August 24, 2024. After the summer orientation season ends, several Orientation Leaders will have the option of working throughout the school year as well.

New hire Orientation Leaders will begin the season with mandatory in-person training May 7-22, 2024 (8am-5pm, Monday-Friday). During the summer, Orientation Leaders may work up to 40 hours per week, and are required to work a minimum of 30 hours per week. Orientation Leaders who are invited to continue working during the school year work 10-20 hours per week.
