The Alaska Community Engagement Alliance (AK CEAL) is a new project within the Center for Alaska Native Health Research that addresses rural Alaska Native community priorities to alleviate disparities in cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases and to improve health and wellness outcomes. The AK CEAL proposes to pilot an adapted evidence-based intervention that was developed by Alaska Native communities to address youth wellness and prevention through culturally-grounded activities. Over an 18-month period of community engagement, the AK CEAL will implement the culturally-based Qungasvik (Tools for Life) intervention in one rural community in southwest Alaska and will collect data on the impacts of the intervention for youth and older adults. The AK CEAL Project Director oversees the community engagement, intervention adaptation, pilot implementation and data collection. This position manages all of the data collected in the pilot, tracks milestones and conducts mandated reporting for the project. The AK CEAL Project Director will oversee all Institutional and Tribal research review and approval processes. This position also supports the development of publications and products for sharing findings and results from the research back to the communities.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities who CANHR serves. This candidate would also possess strong research skills and have demonstrated abilities in conducting interviews and surveys and managing large datasets. They will have the ability to establish clear goals and expectations and to continuously track and measure outcomes in meeting those goals and expectations. Having strong written and verbal communication skills and cross-cultural communication skills is critical in this position.

Our ideal candidate has experience engaging Alaska Native communities in health research. This candidate is knowledgeable about the uniqueness of Alaska Native people, cultures, and communities and has knowledge of health status and solutions for improving Alaska Native well-being.

To thrive in this position, the candidate must have strong organizational skills. It is essential that the candidate has the ability to manage large and complex datasets. It is also critical for the candidate to manage meeting multiple milestones over a time-limited period of performance. This will require time management skills and the ability to work under a timeline and as part of a team.
The candidate also possesses the requisite technical skills to collect, organize, and analyze information and to communicate findings both internally and externally. This includes having knowledge of ethics and human subjects issues in cross-cultural research.

The candidate should also have some administrative experience and some experience with the management of grants.

Minimum Qualifications:

- The candidate should possess a Master's degree in psychology, public health, sociology, social work, counseling, anthropology, education, psychiatric nursing, or a related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- The candidate should have prior experience working with Alaska Native communities and/or with Alaska Native organizations.
- The candidate should have prior experience conducting research projects and managing data.

Position Details:
