The University of Alaska Southeast Juneau is seeking a detail orientated and dedicated Health and Safety Officer. The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety protocols in accordance with regulatory standards and University policies. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. To thrive in this role, a successful candidate should encompass the following skills and abilities:

• At least two years of progressively responsible work in the fields of health and environmental safety, preferably with at least 1 year in an educational and/or laboratory setting
• Expert knowledge in environmental health and safety, hazardous materials, and their associated laws and regulations
• Knowledge of safety in remote field, research and outdoor locations
• Program management and development skills
• Ability to develop effective training programs
• Ability to use a computer, speak in front of large and small groups, communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Ability to plan for budgetary needs
• Solid organizational skills

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety, risk management, environmental science, chemical sciences, engineering, or a related field is required. Professional certification in areas such as CHMM; OHST; CET; CIH; CSP) is preferred. Preferably 40 hours hazardous waste operations, HAZWOPER, and other OSHA type training.

Unrestricted driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria is required.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Southeast campus in Juneau. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and https://www.alaska.edu/hr/benefits/support/prospectiveemployees.php.
